I'm the founder of VidCrush, a free online video compressor used to fit videos into the upload limits of Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and other platforms.
I built VidCrush after spending too many evenings re-encoding screen recordings and gameplay clips with FFmpeg command lines just to share them in a Discord channel. The goal: a no-signup, no-watermark tool that gets it right by default — pick a platform, get a file that fits.
What I write about
The articles on this site cover the practical side of video compression for creators:
- Platform upload limits and how to fit within them without losing quality
- Codec choices — H.264 vs H.265 vs AV1 — and when each matters
- Bitrate, resolution, and frame-rate trade-offs
- Two-pass encoding, container vs. codec, MP4 vs MOV vs WebM
- Common upload mistakes that make videos look worse than they should
How I research
Every guide is verified against the actual platform behavior at the time of writing. Limits change — Discord raised theirs in 2024, Twitter/X expanded Premium upload to 8 GB, TikTok split its limit between Android and iOS — so each post has a visible "Updated" date and I check the numbers when re-publishing.
